Dinner at Driskill Grill Austin, January 2004

Dinner at The Driskill Grill off 6th street in Austin, Texas... This is one of your conservative, dark wood, cigar smoke, hotel restaurants, sorta reminds me of The Prime Rib in Washington, D.C (which is a good thing)... Anyway, I'll get right to the meal...

It was me and the BBC, our last night in Austin so we decided to do it up big time... We opted for Chef Bull's Personalized Tasing Menu. I told them I would eat all nine courses, whatever Chef Bull wanted... BBC on the other hand made his intentions known right away:

"No steak"

Which is understandable given many of our previous meals at Eddie V's, The Cafe at the Four Seasons, etc... We were all "Chateaubriand'ed out" so to speak...

It was a nine course menu but I forgot one of the dishes when I got back to the hotel that evening (I guess that was the least memorable dish?) Anyway, here's the quick overview:

Course 1:
Various Amuse-Gueules

Course 2:
Potato Gnocchi ( Shredded Oxtail, Eggs Parmesan)

Course 3:
Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras ( Foie Gras Brulée, Celery-Apple Salad, Vanilla-Moscato Gastrique )

Course 4:
Jumbo Lump Crab Cake ( Jicama-Poblano Slaw, Smoked Tomato Butter)

Course 5:
Pistachio Crusted Scallop (Black Truffle Quenelle, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Herb Salad)

Course 6:
Oven Roasted Veal Tenderloin (Red Pepper Capellini Pasta, Roasted Garlic, Glazed Sweetbreads, Sauce Mornay)

Course 7:
Brioche Crusted Bristol Bay Cod (Celery Root, Yellow Wax Beans, Oregano Herb Broth)

Course 8:

Various Deserts (Chocolate Flan, Mini-apple crème brulee, Chocolate Mousse, Apple Cinnamon Ice Cream)

SUMMARY:

OK, no details on each dish, I'll just say that everything was great, and that my favorite dish was the Cod. More details later if I have time...
